I give, I give.

So, I've been absentee. I've had to own up to the reality: I'm currently burnt out. Over November and most of December I wrote three EPs. My creativity has dipped a tad...

So what do you all do when you hit a writer's block? I have one rule for these periods of time: stay the f*%k out of the studio. I don't ever want to associate that sacred ground with frustration.

  1. bummer, was looking forward to the hardware tests you mentioned in the last post. but dude I think we all get writers block. when it happens I just spend some time absorbing without thinking of producing. take a trip out of town, read, listen to lots of music, go look at some art, etc. and of course go see some live music. inspiration is bound to happen.

    tell us about the EPs

  2. yea, man...happens to the best of us. i think the best thing is to not get out of the habit of being in the studio though. but like anon above me said, just don't focus too hard on production. program a bunch of synth patches, maybe bust out some old dusty records and go sample diving or what sometimes works for me is trying to make a completely different style of music than you're used to. sometimes the actual routine of the process gets in the way and you just need to have a breakthrough.

  3. I make samples - also I have very limited studio time - maybe 3 hours a day - so try and make it as productive as possible - nothing wrong with noodling away with gear though / jamming out and having fun for it's own sake not to create an end result
